The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) is a statutory body established by the Government of India under the NCISM Act, 2020. It commenced operations on June 11, 2021, replacing the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM). Operating under the Ministry of AYUSH, NCISM is responsible for regulating and overseeing education and practice in traditional Indian medical systems, including Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, and Sowa-Rigpa. Its primary objectives are to enhance access to quality and affordable medical education, ensure the availability of competent medical professionals across the country, and promote equitable and universal healthcare.
